Start with the result, not the robot catalog
Describe the current operation, the problem that justifies automation and the measurable result required. Output per hour, quality criteria, unattended time, changeover and operator involvement give suppliers a decision target instead of a vague request for a robot.
- Current method and bottleneck
- Required output and quality
- Part family and expected changeover
Calculate the complete moving load
Add the workpiece, gripper, adapters, sensors, cables and process tool. Record center of gravity and changing orientations because rated payload alone does not prove wrist moments or acceleration performance.
- Maximum and minimum part mass
- EOAT and adapter mass
- Center of gravity in critical poses
Define usable reach and every interface
List pick, process and place points with required tool angles, clearances and service access. Include mounting, power, air, fieldbus, machine handshakes, safety devices and data exchange so the proposal covers the complete working system.
- Layout or coordinate sketch
- Machine and controller interfaces
- Utilities and environmental limits
Make quotations comparable
Require each proposal to state assumptions, included equipment, exclusions, open risks, validation activities and ownership for installation, programming, FAT, training, warranty and spare parts. This is how technical scope becomes a commercial decision.
- Selected platform and assumptions
- BOM and responsibility boundary
- Acceptance tests and delivery target
Decision checklist
Use the same inputs when comparing supplier proposals.
| Decision area | Inputs to confirm |
|---|---|
| Start with the result, not the robot catalog | Current method and bottleneck; Required output and quality; Part family and expected changeover |
| Calculate the complete moving load | Maximum and minimum part mass; EOAT and adapter mass; Center of gravity in critical poses |
| Define usable reach and every interface | Layout or coordinate sketch; Machine and controller interfaces; Utilities and environmental limits |
| Make quotations comparable | Selected platform and assumptions; BOM and responsibility boundary; Acceptance tests and delivery target |
